Card Game: For the Queen
This is a fun little collaborative storytelling game created by Alex Roberts. Within this little box are cards which you use to determine what your queen looks like, cards which explain the rules (which I thought was wasteful as about a quarter of the cards are rule cards and they all fit on two additional rule reference cards anyway, but whatever) and finally cards which act as prompts for players to add detail about the queen and their relationship. The object seems to be to construct the personality and history of the retinue and their queen (which none of the players are playing) and ultimately to determine whether or not the players defend the queen when she is attacked.
When the B Team played it in the van on the way back from GENCON 2019, it didn't seem at first like anyone knew what to make of it. After a few rounds though we got into it and from our answers to the card prompts developed a very sick and twisted image of the queen we served. Some of this was from us, but a lot I think stemmed from the cards. Had we drawn fewer cards which put the queen in a negative light, then she probably would have come across much less like an evil tyrant.
Well worth whatever it was I paid for it.
